Position Summary: The purpose of the Specialist position is to provide technical assistance and liaison support to assigned Partner Fund advisors and advisory groups, and to support the work of the external relations team to promote philanthropy across the region. A managerial assignment will include program oversight and budgetary responsibilities.  A strong commitment to the vision, mission and values of the Foundation is essential as we work together to serve the communities of central Minnesota. 
 
Responsibilities:
  1. Component Fund Liaison (30%):  Steward and coordinate activities with assigned Partner Funds, advisory groups and donors. Provide technical assistance to fund representatives; serve as Foundation representative at local fund meetings and events; create and conduct orientation for new advisory boards and newly elected advisory board members; provide capacity-building training and support for local advisory boards/committees; ensure annual compliance with fund work plans, rosters and disclosure statements. Works with the communications team to promote the program and maintain collateral media.
  2. Component Fund Grants & Scholarships (20%):  Serve as reviewer for component fund grantmaking, annual scholarships, and other special project fund and agency fund payouts. Work with staff to develop and maintain online applications, close-out evaluations, payout requests and procedures. Participate in the Grants Team and serve as reviewer for grant inquiries that have a direct connection to the Foundation’s community funds.
  3. Component Fund Systems (20%):  Coordinate internal systems and procedures for assigned funds within the Community Philanthropy program. Support task group meetings; work in partnership with staff to develop and maintain online fund portals; maintain and distribute fund manual; work across teams to ensure overall growth, quality and effectiveness of the program.  
  4. Fund Prospects (15%):  Solicit and establish new component funds that align with the Foundation’s mission, with an emphasis on Donor Advised Funds. Develop strong partnerships with professional advisors and promote local philanthropy across the region.
  5. Endowment and Programs (10%):  Work as part of the external relations fund development team to raise funds in support of the Foundation’s endowment and programs. 
  6. Other Duties (5%):  Complete other duties as assigned by the President, Vice President for External Relations or other members of the Leadership team.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Position calls for strong knowledge of community foundations, local philanthropy, nonprofit development, fundraising, and volunteer management. Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills are required. Strong interest and ability to work with a number of computer programs and applications; and a willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and early mornings is required.  
 
Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in community or nonprofit development, education or related field with three years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with nonprofit organizations, providing program and training coordination, fundraising, and grant making. Position requires a valid driver’s license and insurance coverage, or access to reliable transportation.
