Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Winter recreational options abound in the Brainerd Lakes Area. A great central Minnesota attraction, Ski Gull near Gull Lake north of Brainerd offers great, affordable downhill skiing in a family-friendly environment. And snow tubing can be enjoyed in Breezy Point and Mount Ski Gull. Cross-country skiing trails, such as the well-maintained trails at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd, can be found throughout the region from Pine River to Crosslake, and Breezy Point to Baxter.
The Brainerd Lakes Area offers more than 1,200 miles of well-groomed, well-mapped, interconnected snowmobile trails. Discover why the Brainerd Lakes Area is a premiere Minnesota destination all year long – winter, spring, summer, fall.
Snowmobile restrictions lifted on Paul Bunyan Trail. The Brainerd DNR Parks and Trails office announced that the signs prohibiting snowmobiles with metal traction devices from using the trail have been removed on the south end of the Paul Bunyan State Trail. Studded snowmobiles now are allowed on any stretch of the trail from Brainerd to Bemidji.
Northland Arboretum: March 12 – Conditions: Groomed and tracks set on Wednesday. Wicked fast ground up corn snow and great solid tracks with few leaves. But this might all change again with warmer weather.
Brainerd Snodeos: March 12th – No grooming because of warm weather.
Gull Lake Drifters: March 12th - Trails in the Gull Lake area have not been groomed because of warm weather but people are still riding.
Merrifield Marathons: March 10th - Warm weather is taking a toll on the trails. Merrifield is still grooming. Trails are in good condition, they are rated six on a one to ten scale.
Ideal Sno Pros: March 11th – We are not currently grooming because of the warm weather and our trails are in fair to poor condition.
Brainerd/Pequot Lakes: March 13 - The Paul Bunyan State Trail at Pequot Lakes is not groomed and in poor condition, with a 3-6 inch base. There is 18-20 inches of snow on the ground. Trails in the area lost a lot of snow over the past week with the warm temperatures, and highs in the 40s Thursday and Friday will result in more snow melt. There are scattered bare spots, even in the woods, and most clubs have stopped grooming until (if) we get another 6″ of snow.
