Have you ever looked at a beautiful orchid and wished you could grow them in your home? Local orchid grower, Ross Hella, will be presenting a two part class on how to do this. The first part will cover growing orchids at home. During the second part, you will plant a seedling to take home.
Ross Hella and his wife, Julie, have been growing a wide variety of orchids in their home for over 25 years. In 2001, Ross decided to begin hybridizing Paphiopedilums (Asian slipper orchids). To date, Ross has sent 180 crosses to the lab for germination. In 2010, with orchids growing in literally every room in the house, they built an 800 square foot permanent greenhouse to hold their collection. They have received 12 flower quality awards, 2 cultural awards, and one Award of Quality for hybridizing, from the American Orchid Society.
