2021 Memorial Day Service - Crosslake Lutheran Church

Crosslake Lutheran Church will host a community observance of Memorial Day at 10 am on Sunday, May 30th, at the Outdoor Worship Center.  This years speaker will be Cpt. Gail Smith ASAR-Army Nurse Corps on the 30th Anniversary of Desert Storm.  Captain Smith was a member of the 311th Evacuation Hospital, which deployed to the Middle Ease during Desert Storm and served for 4 months in the United Arab Emirates.  She served as chief training officer for the medical unit and fore the UAE joint medical team.  During her 14 years as a reservist with the Army Nurse Corps she also served at Brooks Army and Walter Reed Medical Centers in the ICU.  She was awarded an Army Commendation medal for her service in the Gulf Was and a special award from the UAE Royal Guard for her work in training.  She is a member of the Crosslake Fifty Lakes American Legion Post #500.  The outdoor service will feature the National Anthem sung by John Carlson, a contingent of the Crosslake Fifty Lakes American Legion Post #500 Color Guard firing an honorary salute to the dead and an aerial fly-over by the North Star Squadron, a group of four fixed-wing aircraft flown by experienced pilots who participate in air shows throughout the mid west.  Veterans from WWII to the present will be honored.
Those attending may stay in their cars and listen to the service over their car radio or sit on provided benches and chairs.  People may also bring blankets and chairs.  Pets are welcome.


The Outdoor Worship Center is located at 14019 Daggett Pine Road, across from Crosslake Community Center.
