Success Series: Navigating Employee Layoffs and Unemployment (Answers on Current Employment Issues)
If you are considering the heart-wrenching decision of whether to lay off employees, you likely have several questions on your mind. This special Blue Ox Success Series webinar will cover these topics and leave plenty of time for Q&A.

  • What is the best way to break the news to your people?
  • What process should you follow?
  • What are your responsibilities and risks?
  • How does Minnesota’s unemployment insurance system work, and are federal funds available?
  • How can you avoid layoffs through the Shared Work program?

We've gathered some experts in human resources, labor law, and the state's emergency loan program and unemployment insurance to answer your questions.  Join us to hear from Kristen Ireland and Erin Mies at PeopleSpark, Phyllis Karasov, an employment attorney from Larkin Hoffman in the Twin Cities, and Kylle Jordan, a Regional Business Development Manager at DEED.

Topics Covered:

  • Provide an overview of FFCRA, including requirements and exemptions.
  • Answer questions regarding the considerations and impacts of following the requirements of FFCRA and choosing to be more generous than FFCRA.
  • Discuss the employer requirements and considerations of unemployment, as well as communication to employees.
  • Unemployment insurance rating and timing of $600 federal addition to unemployment.
  • DEED Loan Guarantee program.
  • Other DEED programs available like Emerging Entrepreneur if time allows.
