Crosslake Community Forum re: Housing

Monday, October 14, 2019 (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

A great deal has been accomplished by Crosslaker Work Groups in just three short years and partnerships have been formed with the City of Crosslake and several community organizations.  The Crosslakers have identified housing as an issue that boils to the top whenever groups of people convene, so we’ve partnered with the City to host a public community forum on Monday, October 14, 2019 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Crosslake City Hall 37028 County Road 66, Crosslake, MN  56442 to participate in the conversation regarding housing needs in Crosslake.

As it turns out, our timing is perfect. Crow Wing County is in the midst of a study/needs analysis to identify housing needs county-wide.  Kristin Fish-Peterson of Redevelopment Resources will share information regarding the study currently in process with final results expected by year end. Information gathered at Crosslake’s forum will be extremely beneficial in determining specific needs for Crosslake.

Results of the Crow Wing County study/needs analysis will help decision makers, stakeholders, and community members develop a meaningful sense of the availability and needs for workforce housing as well as an understanding of key housing issues. The report is intended to offer community leaders and stakeholders a basis for formulating community-specific workforce housing priorities, policy alternatives, and strategies.

At the forum, you’ll also hear a summary report of available properties. Are they considered affordable for entry level or first-time home buyers?  Learn income guidelines necessary to be able to secure a mortgage, hear from a builder who will share information regarding current building costs and challenges.   Where does Crosslake Planning and Zoning fit in, and what could be done if anything to create neighborhoods for entry level buyers or renters.  This forum is open to the public and we need input from employers.  If there is a lack of housing in Crosslake, is it hindering your business growth?   Are your employees looking to buy or to rent?  We also need input from folks who work in Crosslake, but live elsewhere – why don’t you live in Crosslake?

Help us answer all these questions and more. Let’s make sure Crosslake is well represented in this Crow Wing County study.
